No. BetMGM allows each person one account, and that one account already works in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan and West Virginia. If you have a BetMGM NJ account, you don't open a new one in Pennsylvania or Michigan. You log in with the same credentials once you are physically inside that state. Registering a second time to get a second welcome bonus is the multiple-account behavior BetMGM's terms say can get you suspended or banned.
The question matters because the app makes it look possible. You switch states and see a different lobby, sometimes a different promotion, and it is natural to assume each state is a separate account with its own sign-up offer. It isn't. What does change by state is narrower than that: where your bonuses can be used and where your wagering counts. Those two rules decide whether a bonus you claim is worth anything to you.
How one login covers four states
Start with signup. BetMGM's registration FAQ lists what it collects: legal name, date of birth, residential address and Social Security Number. It says legal standards require "each person have only one account with each licensed online casino." Because your SSN is on file, a second registration is not anonymous. It matches you. The same page says attempting more than one registration can trigger suspension while BetMGM verifies the discrepancy. The NJ help center gives the policy in one line: "No. For security reasons, you are only permitted to have one account."
That account is consolidated. According to BetMGM's Account FAQs, these follow you across its states:
- one set of login credentials, using your primary email (legacy User IDs no longer work)
- one cash balance
- one transaction history
- your responsible-gaming limits, self-exclusions and time-outs
Nevada is the exception. BetMGM says Nevada accounts "will not be consolidated at this time."
Your home address does not decide which state you play in. Geolocation decides it, at the moment you bet. BetMGM says plainly that "it's where you're at when you want to place bets, not where you legally make your residence." A Pennsylvania resident on a trip to Atlantic City plays under New Jersey rules on the same account.
Two things stay behind when you cross a state line. Bonuses, free bets, tokens and free spins can only be used in the state where you received them. Wagering progress toward a promotion is counted per state, so play in one state never combines with play in another.
Where the rule shows up
Deposit limits. BetMGM's own example: you set a $500 daily deposit limit, then deposit $100 in New Jersey, $200 in Michigan and $300 in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania deposit is declined, because the limit counts across every state on the account. Moving to another state does not reset it.
Self-exclusion. If you self-exclude in one state, you lose access to BetMGM in every state. Suspended or restricted statuses carry over the same way for the length of the restriction.
Bonus wagering. Say you claim the New Jersey casino match, clear part of the rollover, then spend a weekend in Pennsylvania playing slots on the same login. None of that Pennsylvania play counts toward the New Jersey requirement, and the New Jersey bonus funds can't be used there anyway. Your expiry clock keeps running while you are out of state. For the full rollover arithmetic on the New Jersey offer, see the New Jersey welcome bonus math.
Welcome offers. On the sportsbook side, SportsHandle states that "you can only claim one BetMGM sign-up bonus." Next.io reports BetMGM applies its one-welcome-promotion rule per person, per household, per physical address and per shared IP network. It also says a violation triggers a bonus abuse flag that locks the wallet and forfeits bonus credits.
One point about older advice. Before the migration, BetMGM customers did have to create a separate account in each state. New Jersey was in the final migration wave, announced to customers by email on August 30. Forum posts from before then that describe separate state accounts are describing a system that no longer exists.
A state switch is not a second account
People often read "one account" as "one pot of everything." It is one pot of cash and one set of rules about you. It is not one pot of bonuses.
| Follows you to PA, MI, WV | Stays in the state where you got it | |
|---|---|---|
| Login and settings | Yes | |
| Cash balance and history | Yes | |
| Deposit limits, time-outs, self-exclusion | Yes | |
| Bonus funds, free spins, tokens | Yes | |
| Wagering progress toward a promotion | Yes |
Location rules are a separate issue from account rules. A unified login does not let you play casino games anywhere BetMGM Casino isn't live. As of October 2026, it is live only in New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Before you claim anything outside New Jersey
Don't register again. If you are in Pennsylvania or Michigan, open the app, let it locate you, and log in with your existing primary email. A fresh signup with your SSN risks suspension and puts your cash balance in limbo while BetMGM sorts it out.
Don't assume you can or can't get a second welcome offer. This is the gap in the evidence, and you should know where it is. BetMGM's account terms confirm that bonuses are locked to the state where you received them, which implies you can receive promotions in more than one state. Nothing BetMGM publishes in the material reviewed here says whether an existing New Jersey casino customer counts as "new" for a Pennsylvania or Michigan casino welcome bonus. The sportsbook terms point toward no: one sign-up bonus per person, and offers for new customers only. Before you deposit in a second state for a bonus, ask BetMGM support in writing whether your account is eligible, and keep the reply.
Clear a bonus where you claimed it. If you take a New Jersey offer, plan to do the wagering in New Jersey before it expires. Out-of-state play won't count toward it. The weighting still applies too: slots count far more than blackjack, as BetMGM's game weighting table shows.
Set limits knowing they travel. One limit covers every state on the account. That makes it a stronger safeguard than many players expect, and a firm ceiling when you are planning deposits across states.
